2017 End-of-Year!

Hey y'all!!

It's SO hard to believe that this year is almost over. 2017 has been something else, and it's pretty interesting to look back at it.

This year has been a mix of happy, sad, unbelievable, and unthinkable. I've had the privilege of making music that I am so proud of with people that I love. I've gotten to do so much that I would never have thought possible, and it's been so incredible. For these things, I am thankful and appreciative beyond words, and I can’t wait to see what 2018 is going to bring. However, there has been so much suffering and sadness in the world as a whole this year. We lost so many incredible artists who shaped music as we know it. The world has also had to deal with several horrific tragedies. Each one was horrendous and awful, but the one that hit me hardest personally was the Las Vegas shooting. Music is God's gift to us that we can use to connect ourselves to others and to remove ourselves from reality for a little while, and the thought of that being threatened or ruined is so disturbing. I cannot even begin to imagine what the victims and the families of the victims of these tragedies are going through, and I pray that they will feel the comfort and peace that only God can give.

We're lucky, though, that so much great new music was put out into the world this year to alleviate some of the suffering and sadness. Art is such an incredible blessing that we've been given. I know that I take it for granted sometimes, but it's times like the end of the year that make me realize how undeserving we are of the power of music. With that, these are my personal favorite records that were released in 2017 (plus the Spotify links in case you wanna listen, which you definitely should):

MY FAVORITE RECORDS OF 2017 (in no particular order):

1. Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps (FAVORITE SONG: "Funeral", "Motion Sickness", or "Scott Street")

2. Julien Baker - Turn Out the Lights (FAVORITE SONG: "Turn Out the Lights" or "Shadowboxing")

3. Paramore - After Laughter (FAVORITE SONG: "Fake Happy" or "26")

4. Alvvays - Antisocialites (FAVORITE SONG: "Plimsoll Punks" or "In Undertow")

5. Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit - The Nashville Sound (FAVORITE SONG: I'm not even gonna try to pick)

6. Ryan Adams - Prisoner (FAVORITE SONG: "Do You Still Love Me?", "Shiver and Shake", or "To Be Without You")

7. Waxahatchee - Out in the Storm (FAVORITE SONG: "Sparks Fly" or "Brass Beam")

So there you have it! I love those records (and lots of others that aren't on the list) so much. They've really influenced the music I make, and they make me really excited about the future of music as a whole.

And, if y'all are reading this, I wanna especially thank Michael, Brad, Will, my mom, Vince Gill, everyone who came out to see me when I played a show, and really everyone that gave me words of encouragement and support this year. I treasure it more than I could ever say, and I mean it when I say how thankful I am.

And, lastly: what were YOUR favorite songs/records of this year? I would love to know. Let me know on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook or in the comments here!!

Love you all! Merry Christmas, too!!
